October 2023
This Month is a monthly email newsletter where I share three happenings in and around Detroit. Get involved.
Most Fridays in October, typically starting around 8pm
Observatories!
Various locations
Free
The sun is starting to set earlier which means it’s the best time for star-gazing. There are a handful of observatories in the region where you can peek into a big ol’ telescope on a Friday night and see the stars with your own naked eye: Cranbrook Institute of Science, U-M Dearborn, and the Detroit Observatory and Angell Hall in Ann Arbor. If you want to see another star in the dark, the Ford Drive-In will be showing the Taylor Swift Eras Tour concert film, which will probably single-handedly revive the movie theater industry.

Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago
@ Andy Art Center, Detroit
$25
TeMaTé Institute for Black Dance and Culture, one of the only dance-focused organizations in the region, invites this powerhouse dance theatre group from Chicago to Detroit. It’s all a part of TeMaTé’s weekend conference, which includes incredible dance classes where you can and should move your body.

Vagabon
@ El Club, Detroit
$26
Hitting the road in support of her sophomore album, Vagabon graces the stage and brings Baltimore-musician Nourished by Time in tow. If that doesn’t mean anything to you, listen to their music, some of my fav of the past few months: “Can I Talk My Shit?” and “The Fields”
