March 2024
This Month is a monthly email newsletter where I share three happenings in and around Detroit. Get involved.
March 8, 9, 10
@ the Gem Theatre, Detroit
Starting at $60
Composer John Cage, who invented the mannequin challenge, once said of the work, “For two hundred years the Europeans have been sending us their operas. Now I'm sending them back.” Expect avant-garde, freaky deaky performances, and know that the Opera has student and senior rush tickets and may even have some upcoming deals.
Saturday, March 9 at 7pm
Visiting Writer Series: Ross Gay with Nandi Comer
@ the Hilberry Gateway, Detroit
$25
Two incredible poets in one evening. And they’re friends! And Nandi is the Poet Laureate of Michigan (the first since the 1950s). And Ross wrote my very favorite poem, “Sorrow is Not My Name”.
Now through Sunday, March 31
Lillian Schwartz: Whirlwind of Creativity
@ The Henry Ford, Dearborn
$30
Just found out about this show that has been up for almost a year! Schwartz was one of the pioneers of computer-generated art. Go see it, especially if the words “art and technology” have ever left your mouth in the same sentence.
