Absolute legend and civil rights activist Mavis Staples is 85 years old and playing for free on the river as a part of Concert of Colors. I got to work backstage with Mavis once and she told me about how she just got new knees and then we danced the Charleston and the mashed potato together.

Pride doesn’t end in June. Hotter Than July, Detroit’s Black LGBTQ Pride, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with many events hosted by LGBT Detroit including a mayoral forum. The picnic is thee signature event and will feature DJs, drag queens, a mini-ball, and most importantly, celebration.
