February 2024
This Month is a monthly email newsletter where I share three happenings in and around Detroit. Get involved.
Today through February 25
Celebrating Black Arts presented by the Carr Center
@ 1001 Woodward, Detroit
Free
The Carr Center, serving and championing Black arts in Detroit for over 30 years, returns downtown for a packed line-up of nearly daily free music, dance, kid-friendly programs, and film screenings. If that’s not enough, they’re also sewing a community quilt and looking for fiber minded people to help out.
February 9 through May 12
Regeneration Black Cinema Exhibition Companion Film Series
@ Detroit Film Theatre, Detroit
Free
As a part of an upcoming exhibition on Black cinema, the DFT is screening some iconic films over the next few months that range from experimental to feature-length. Some include live accompaniment, like Eleven P.M. on February 18, with a score composed and performed by pianist Ian Finkelstein.
Friday, February 23 at 6pm
DILLAWORLD: Distinctly Dilla
@ MOCAD, Detroit
$20
A celebration in honor of Dilla’s 50th birthday. Particularly excited about the Dilla World Orchestra at 10pm, followed by djing and dancing by Beige and Something Blue. If you can’t make it, make it up to me by listening to Dilla’s 2006 album Donuts.
